There are several fantastic ways to keep bugs away from your fun barbecue activity aside from getting the best insect sprays.
Ants, flies, mosquitoes, and other stinging insects are most active during the hot summer months, so anticipate seeing bigger populations as the season progresses.
Some of these annoying insects are known to offer serious health risks by producing allergic responses and transmitting illness, so it’s crucial to stay away from them while you’re out in your backyard.
If you’re having a backyard barbeque or picnic this summer, Consider the following tips & methods to avoid pests from ruining your barbecue.
KEEP DOORS CLOSED
Make a quick check of your window screens and screen doors before the party to make sure there are no tears or holes. Repair any that you found to prevent tiny pests from entering the house. Remind your guests to close the door firmly behind them once they enter. Finding a house fly buzzing about the kitchen is never fun!
REMOVE ANY STANDING WATER
Mosquitoes only require approximately 12 inches of water to reproduce. To avoid mosquitoes breeding in your yard, remove or drain standing water from sources such as flowerpots, birdbaths, baby pools, and grill covers.
USE INSECT REPELLENT
If you’re having a get-together before sundown, make sure you and your guests have enough insect repellent on hand. DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon-eucalyptus, or IR3535 are examples of EPA-registered active ingredients.
AVOID USING SCENTED CANDLES
Several stinging and biting insects are drawn to scents like shampoo, perfume, and candles. As if the smell of the barbeque isn’t good enough. These and other fragrant products should be avoided & opt for the unscented ones.
TAKE CARE OF THE MESS
To avoid attracting pests to your backyard, clean up spills and crumbs as soon as possible. Most especially on picnic tables and other surfaces. Moreover, don’t leave garbage out in the yard for a long period of time. Tidy up plates and cups from time to time and place them in a sealed garbage can.
COVER GARBAGE CANS
Keep garbage can lids on at all times. It will keep pests out of the garbage and water out of the garbage. Water (particularly standing water) is a mosquito breeding ground.
MOW YOUR LAWN
Cut the grass in your yard short to prevent adult mosquitoes from hiding in it.
MAKE USE OF A FAN
Keep cool while beating mosquitos. Mosquitoes will be unable to fly towards the wind if an electric fan is placed on the picnic table.
Without using insect spray or citronella candles, there are lots of ways to enjoy your barbecue. Both are very effective, but there are times when you just want to sit back and relax without having to bother about lighting a candle or reapplying an insect spray.
Keep these wonderful tips in mind & always keep your yard clean and free of stagnant water to prevent bugs & mosquitoes ruining your outdoor fun!
