These everyday products work wonders as pest repellents. Use these natural solutions to keep pesky pests at bay.
COFFEE GROUNDS
These coffee grounds can be used for purposes other than making coffee. If you believe that pests are entering your home through certain areas on the exterior, try using your leftover coffee grounds in those areas. Many animals will avoid the area since they can’t bear the scent of the grounds. Coffee grinds may also be used to keep animals out of your garden.
BANANA
Is your garden being overrun by aphids? Simply bury a banana peel in the ground close to the plant stems. This will not only keep the pests away, but it will also enrich the soil with some nutrients.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Grab a small basin and add some apple cider vinegar if those annoying fruit flies are taking over your kitchen. Punch a few holes in the plastic wrap that encircles the bowl the size of a pencil lead. The vinegar will draw the fruit flies, and once inside, they won’t be able to leave. Additionally, vinegar may be used to make a natural cleaner.
CORNMEAL
Ants in sight? Wherever you notice ants, spread out little heaps of cornmeal. Ants enjoy eating cornmeal, and they will bring it back to their colony even if they are unable to digest it. Although it could take a few days to start working, it’s a non-toxic remedy if you have pets.
WHITE VINEGAR
Other ants in the colony may more easily obtain food thanks to the trails left by ants. Use a mixture of 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2 cups water, and 10 drops of peppermint or eucalyptus oil to wash the track away. Some oils may also be used to deodorize spaces and clean furniture.
BASIL
Sweet basil is one of the greatest patio plants since it not only tastes excellent but also deters insects. Simply grow sweet basil in a pot and position it near to a regularly used door in a sunny location. If you don’t have much room, you may cultivate a variety of delicious plants in pots and other tiny containers.
ONION
Despite being an old wives’ tale, it is effective. Cut up some onions, and put them in a basin of water to deter spiders. Spiders won’t enter your home if you place the bowl there. Use this advice to keep additional pests out of your house during fall.
ESSENTIAL OILS
Using essential oils, you may make your own dust mite repellent spray. In a spray bottle, combine eucalyptus, lavender, clove, or peppermint oil with water. Use it to sprinkle linens and furniture, then let the spray air dry.
